I had this exact photograph in my mind for about a year, but finding a building rooftop to occupy on a clear evening, at sunset, facing the streets I wanted to highlight (namely, Broad and Market) was as challenging as you might think.

The answer came in the form of my husband who brought me to the Loews hotel in center city and presented me with this view from the 32nd floor. If you look carefully, you can see the glowing clock in the tower of city hall, the lights of the endless traffic, and farther still, the calm evening water of the river.

I took close to fifty shots as the sun sank lower in the sky until I saw this one appear: the moment the sky turned a fascinating combination of orange, cream, and blue, contrasting softly against the grey buildings and the warmth of the lights.
